Ob viam, the Latin etymological root of the word “obvious”, has an interesting connotation to it; ob viam translates to “in the way”, that which is before you (in front of you). The evidence of a supporting foundation to a building, again, is obvious. However, we do not see the foundation itself. The structure itself is in this interesting paradigm of being indivisible to the building but invisible to the building’s occupants. In the way and out of sight at once.
